12 Black Cannabis Visionaries documentary

This compelling film shines a light on twelve trailblazing Black pioneers in the cannabis industry—entrepreneurs, activists, scientists, and advocates—who have played a crucial role in shaping the modern cannabis movement. Their work has not only influenced policy and public perception but has also paved the way for equity and representation in an industry historically plagued by racial injustice.

Filmmakers Patty Mooney and Mark Schulze, co-founders of New & Unique Videos, have spent decades documenting stories that matter. Their flagship cannabis documentary, Nectarball: The Story of Cannabis, has won multiple awards and continues to shed light on the broader history and impact of cannabis worldwide. Their latest project, 12 Black Cannabis Visionaries, is part of their ongoing commitment to highlighting the truth behind cannabis prohibition, racial disparities, and the impactful efforts of those striving for justice and innovation in the field.

“Black history is American history,” says Mooney. “And the cannabis industry is deeply intertwined with social justice movements led by Black leaders. This documentary amplifies their voices and contributions at a crucial time.”

This release is particularly meaningful for us, as February 14th marks the 43rd anniversary of the day Patty and Mark first met—an unforgettable Valentine’s Day that launched not just a love story, but a lifetime of creative collaboration. From producing award-winning documentaries to advocating for cannabis justice, our journey has always been fueled by a passion for storytelling and truth.
